Fees, in plain terms

How we price — and an honest answer to "can I afford you?"

Legal fees should not be a mystery. This page sets out how we charge, what our fixed fees include, and what to do if you are worried you cannot afford us. We confirm every fee in writing, with an estimate, before we begin — no surprises.

Three ways we charge

Fixed fees

For defined pieces of work — most visa applications, wills and estate documents, and straightforward family steps — we quote one price before we start. The price includes everything listed in the package; if something outside the package becomes necessary, we tell you and agree the cost before doing it. Government charges, court fees and barristers' fees are separate, and we say so up front.

Agreed hourly rates

For litigation and complex advisory work, we charge by time, at rates set by seniority. You receive the rates and a written estimate in our engagement letter before work begins, and we tell you if anything changes the estimate.

Legally aided work

We are one of Hong Kong's most experienced firms in legally aided work. If you may qualify, we will tell you at the first conversation. See below.

Can I afford you?

If you cannot pay our standard rates, tell us — there is often a route, and we will help you find it.

Legal aid

Many of our cases are funded by the Legal Aid Department or the Duty Lawyer Service. If you may qualify, we will tell you at the first conversation and help you apply — before any private fee is discussed.

Referrals

Where a client does not qualify for legal aid, we can often refer the matter to a legal clinic or an NGO partner better placed to help.

Pro bono

We reserve our free work for those who need it most — survivors of human trafficking and forced marriage, refugees, asylum seekers, survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and others facing crisis without means. It is a deliberate decision taken by a partner in each case, not a discount.
